There are actually three, three storey houses attached to form the Dara Residence. There is a capacity of 49-53 tenants. There are presently five single rooms at Dara and 22 double/shared bedrooms located on the first, second and third floors of the three buildings. All bedrooms have their own en suite washrooms. Each building also has a lounge/recreation area, also with it's own washroom. The dining rooms, storage room, laundry room, staff room, maintenance room, kitchen, and office are located in the basement. As is the case in all of these buildings, there is no smoking anywhere in the building.
The rents are based on tenant's income source. Tenants receiving ODSP pay $543.30 per month and those receiving OW pay $356.72 per month. This payment includes three meals and an evening snack, an available snack table during the day, laundry soap, toiletries such as toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, etc as well as daily housekeeping, use of telephone for local calls, access to newspapers and magazines, staff on site 24 hours a day, monitoring of medication and a supply of recreational materials such as board games.
Dara Residence is home to both male and female tenants. The home is within walking distance of recreational areas such as Allan Gardens, places of worship, parks, hospitals, shopping, etc. The main intersection is Sherbourne Street and Carlton Street. It is within steps of the Carlton streetcar line, Sherbourne and Jarvis buses.
